An Evening With Mystical Duet

Last Friday, on the eve of World Labyrinth Day, we gathered at Brown Hill Uniting Church for a deeply immersive and transformative musical experience.
About fifty people attended, some perhaps unsure of what to expect, and together found themselves transported to a meditative soundscape.
Mystical Duet – a father-son duo from Czechia, Ivo and Pavel Sedlacek – were the skilled musicians who led us on this journey. The pair played an array of instruments: flutes, handpan, guitar, tuned glass, and “Andromeda”, Ivo’s breathtaking 37-string spherical violin, the only one of its kind in the world. In the Sedlaceks’ hands, these instruments became portals to another world. The music they bathed us in was meditative and ethereal, layered and spacious.

This was Mystical Duet’s first stop on their 2026 Australian Tour, and although we have been running events and experiences for some time now, it was also the first gathering under the auspices of The Wayfarer Collective. The symmetry of this pairing was exquisite: two beautiful beginnings taking place in a church filled with open-hearted people on a moonlit autumn night.
Outside, under the glow of the Hunter’s Moon, labyrinth facilitator Diane Hewitt had hand-crafted a labyrinth especially for our participants. The contemplative path, created using a design that has been walked by spiritual seekers since time immemorial, was laid out in front of the church’s entrance, inviting all those who felt called to enter. The labyrinth is an ancient spiritual practice, with its single winding path inevitably leading those who walk it into the centre and back out again.

Many in the audience chose to walk the labyrinth both before and after the performance, and the two experiences complemented each other perfectly. Mystical Duet’s music allowed for the sonic journey inside, and Diane’s labyrinth provided a contemplative journey outside. Both were tied together by the same quiet question: what do you find when you slow down, listen, and trust the journey unfolding before you?
Friday night’s gathering was a perfect example of what The Wayfarer Collective is. It is not a church service or a curriculum; it is simply an invitation to gather with others in slow, intentional spaces, where wonder is understood as an innately spiritual practice.

The Wayfarer Collective will return to Brown Hill Uniting Church on Sunday 31st May, for something a little different but equally powerful.
Our own spiritual director, Fiona, who’s also a traditional Scots singer, accredited Naked Voice facilitator, and Deep Coach (among her many other skills and roles), will guide participants through a 90-minute workshop exploring the voice as music, healing and awareness.
Your voice is the messenger of your soul. In this workshop, we’ll connect with our authentic voice through empowering sound practices, sacred chants & gentle energy movement.
No experience is necessary and no musical background is required. Just you, your voice and a willing curiosity.
Sunday 31st May, 2pm-3.30pm – Brown Hill Uniting Church – $25
